Magic Mile (take 2)

I did it correctly today:

Mile 1 (ran slow)- 10:54
Mile 2 (ramped it up)- 6:44
Mile 3 (what felt like "normal" speed)- 8:55

Finish time- 27:25! A new PR!

I'm still in shock over the 6:44! I immediately thought my GPS must have lost signal somewhere, but it's TRUE!

Me and My Shadow

Me and my shadow
Running through the neighborhood
Just me and my shadow
All alone and feeling good

My shadow, my friend
In front of, or beside me
I look at you and know
That nothing will stop me!

With a smile on my face
Like joy I must share
I find my pace
And I haven't a care

Running is my therapy
Because when doubt creeps in
I just look down and see
My shadow is thin!

-me!

Why are you taking this class?

So I was just flipping through one of my (9, yes NINE!) Humanities textbook(s) for my November 1st class, and saw that my first assignment will be writing an essay on why I chose to take this class. Ugh. Do I make up something that sounds like I "wanted" to take this class... I enrolled in Humanities 103 because I'm fascinated by the history and subjects of art. Oh look- a picture of a bowl of fruit! Um. No. I'm taking this class because it's a requirement for my degree (though I have no idea how this relates to Laboratory Animal Science) and I have already put it off as long as I possibly can. I would much rather have this be my first assignment for Advanced Algebra. I actually picked that one because I -wanted- to. However, since perusing the algebra textbook (yes booK, no plural, only one, as it should be!) I think I must have been insane. This is definitely not going to be the "blow-off" 12 weeks I originally thought :(

Please. just. kill. me. now.

Magic Mile?

This week, in preparation for my 5k, I'm testing my magic mile pace. I'm pretty sure I did it backwards today but these are my times:

Mile 1- 9:24
Mile 2- 9:27
Mile 3- 10:06

Overall time- 29:45

I really -AM- a runner!

What I've discovered thus far (for myself at least) is that the first mile is definitely the hardest. Each mile after that it gets better (easier?), and by the time I get to the 4th mile I really feel "warmed up." That's when I know that I can just keep on going, and don't ever want to stop. And THAT is what makes me truly believe that I am really a runner- I don't ever want to stop!

And I'm still amazed that my feet don't hurt!

My first 10k (not racing, just running :))

I am so excited! I went out this morning for B210k w7d2. Thought I'd try running earlier in the morning so that I wouldn't have to play obstacle course with the golfers. Well what a difference! I had the whole course to myself (besides my husband and the guys who work here) and it was wonderful!

It was pretty chilly when I left the house. I didn't check the temperature but I had on long running tights, my "Waddle On" tank top, and a sweatshirt over. Also wore 2 pairs of socks, and put the super-expensive custom insoles into my shoes (they were so expensive I had been saving them, LOL!). And off I went...

It was cold out there! Usually I have my sweatshirt off and tied around my waist before I finish the first mile, but this morning I kept it on until between miles 3 and 4. When I did take it off, I think that's when I knew this was going to be a special run :)

My B210k timer went off just after mile 5. Since I started C25k and continuing into B210k I always get a little sad when it's over. Sometimes it's a relief, but for the most part I hate to stop. So today, I didn't. And let me tell you, I have NEVER felt so good as I did between miles 5 and 6! Seriously, I can't even express the sheer pleasure that was coursing through me!

Just as my timer signaled mile 6 I ran into the first group of golfers. I figured that was my higher power telling me it was time to stop, and not to overdo it. I pulled out my phone and pushed myself as hard as I could until I saw the 6.2. Then I turned it off and walked home :) So actually I ended up going about 7 miles, but I really don't even remember the walk home. And I still can't stop smiling!

Craving Chinese Food

For the past few days I have been craving Chinese food something awful! At the grocery store today I happened upon some rice noodles, so I thought I'd attempt my own version of Chow Mai Fun (sp?). I was happily surprised at how yummy it turned out! And it was so easy! I boiled the rice noodles (holy cow do they cook fast- 1 minute tops!), drained them, then added a can of bean sprouts, a tablespoon of minced garlic, 3 chopped up scallions, some ground ginger, a teaspoon of soy sauce (low sodium of course) and some Asian sesame ginger sauce. It made 4 servings at less than 300 calories per serving and less than 300mg of sodium per serving. I will definitely make this again and next time maybe throw some sesame seeds in it.
